shifting perspectives

wandering among the redwoods
feeling so small, tiny even
if the base of this tree was a toe

i would only be half the height of a toe

looking up, feeling the enormity of love
determination, growing towards the light
despite ants wandering around the toes

for i am an ant here
tiny, insignificant
in the majestic life of this being
who has weathered storms and winds,
fire and drought
growing over decades and centuries
my life is so small in comparison

continuing my forest wandering
amongst the sorrel growing nearby
a flitter catches my eye
a tiny moth
no bigger than my thumbnail
flitters about landing from leaf to leaf
on a plant than is no taller than my shin

a giant redwood
a short human
a tiny moth

life in so many forms
so many sizes
a variety of lifespans
but life none the less

Creation’s gentleness is all around
basking in the glory of life itself

and so it is,
Amen
